How to find your MPRN
1. Check Your Electricity Bill
The easiest place to find your MPRN is on your electricity bill. Look near the top right corner for an 11-digit number starting with “10”. It might be labelled as “Meter Point Reference Number” or just “MPRN”.
2. Log in to Your Electricity Supplier Account, or call your electricity Supplier
If you don’t have your bill handy, you can call your electricity supplier or find your MPRN via your online account:
- Go to your electricity supplier website
- Log in or create an account if you haven’t already
- Head to your meter or account details section
- Look for your MPRN listed there
3. Check Your Electricity Meter
Your MPRN might also be on a sticker or label directly on your electricity meter. It’s usually printed on the front or side, so take a quick look next time you’re near your meter.
4. Contact ESB Networks
Still can’t find your MPRN? No problem. Get in touch with ESB Networks customer service and they’ll be happy to assist you in tracking it down.
What Exactly is an MPRN?
Your Meter Point Reference Number is a unique 11-digit code that identifies your home’s electricity connection and meter. It helps your supplier track energy usage accurately, making sure your bills are correct and your energy data is clear – essential when you’re applying for grants or upgrading your home.
Why Does Your MPRN Matter for Home Energy Upgrades?
Your MPRN is a vital part of the home retrofit process:
- Grant Applications: Energy upgrade schemes like SEAI’s Deep Retrofit require your MPRN to confirm eligibility and keep track of your project.
- Switching Energy Suppliers: If you change your energy provider during your retrofit, your MPRN is needed to set up your new account.
- Accurate Meter Readings: Monitoring your energy use during upgrades depends on correct meter readings linked to your MPRN, ensuring you get the full benefit of your improvements.
